Joel Green

Trombone

Since arriving in Winnipeg in 2012, Joel Green has established himself as a sought after trombonist, clinician, educator, and has performed and recorded with Manitoba artists Royal Canoe, JP Hoe, Begonia, Sweet Alibi, Sol James, and many others. Prior to moving to Winnipeg, he freelanced in Toronto, performing with luminaries such as Frank Sinatra Jr., Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, David Foster, Gladys Knight, Colin James, Roger Hodgson and Frankie Valli. An experienced pit orchestra musician, he has played in the pit orchestra for dozens of musicals including South Pacific, 9 to 5, Wicked, The Addams Family, The Full Monty, Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins, Lord of the Rings and Dirty Dancing. Mr. Green has also performed with many orchestras including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and has performed at the Museum of Modern Art and ’Bang on a Can’ New Music Festival in New York City. He has performed in Jazz, Blues and Folk festivals across Canada, as well as entertaining Manitobans in bars, barns, homes and on street corners as a member of the energetic New Orleans-style brass outfit, the Dirty Catfish Brass Band. Mr. Green was on faculty at Humber College in Toronto for over a decade, and has taught countless clinics throughout Ontario and Manitoba in schools and music camps. Since completing his Masters degree at Brandon University in 2019, Mr. Green is pursuing research and performance interests in hip-hop and gospel music, as well as developing new pedagogical approaches to improvisation and autodidactic learning.
